Pre-Historic Society
Life of Early Humans
Prehistoric people lived in small groups and moved from place to place in search of food. Their life was shaped by the seasons, the movement of animals and the availability of water.
Hunter-Gatherers
They hunted animals such as deer, wild cattle and boar using stone-tipped weapons.
They gathered fruits, roots, seeds and honey from forests.
Caves and rock shelters near rivers were their common homes.
Social Organisation
Groups were small and based on kinship. Work was shared — some members hunted while others gathered food and looked after children. There is no clear evidence of rulers or classes in this period.
Towards Settled Life
With the beginning of farming and the domestication of animals in the Neolithic Age, people began to live in one place for longer. This change laid the foundation of villages and, much later, of towns.
Remember: the shift from food gathering to food producing is called the Neolithic Revolution.
